Guwahati, 4, April (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness that the North East region has been identified as one of the top tourist destinations in the country.
Replying to a tweet by G Kishan Reddy, union Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of North East (DoNER), Modi on Tuesday wrote: “Enjoyable. An increase in tourism means an increase in prosperity in the respective regions.”
Reddy wrote on his Twitter handle, “In 2022, the Northeast has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of domestic and international (foreign) tourists.”
The minister also wrote that this year more than 11.8 million domestic and one lakh foreign tourists visited the North East. Due to the extensive efforts of the government to get the region recognised globally, the North East region has been identified as a top tourist destination in the country.
From developing infrastructure to making the area commercially and culturally recognisable, the central government is taking forward development projects for the overall development of the region in terms of tourism.
