Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari shifted to Banda jail in UP

Banda,  07 April  (HS) :      Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari shifted to UP’s Banda jail in the wee hours of Wednesday. He was brought here from Roper prison in Punjab after two years on the directions of the Supreme Court.

In Banda district jail, Mukhtar Ansari has been lodged in barrack number 15 that will be under round the clock surveillance. He was lodged in the same barrack before being shifted to Punjab jail in January 2019 in connection with an extortion case.

Escorted by highly equipped security team of UP police Mukhtar Ansari was brought inside the jail at around 4.30 am. First of all he was put through a series of checks by the police personnel as well as the jail officials and no illegal item was found from his possession. Then the doctors from the Medical College Banda examined and found him medically fit, said an official of the jail.

 Adequate security arrangements have been made in the Banda prison for the safety of the gangster-turned-politician. Heavy police force has been deployed there. High towers have been put up outside the jail and the main gate which generally remains open, will now be kept closed. Only jail staff on duty will be allowed for entry after a thorough check-up.

The five-time MLA from Mau in eastern UP, Mukhtar Ansari are facing more than 50 cases and 15 of them are in the trail stage. He was also linked to the murder of BJP legislator Krishnanand Rai.
