Amit Shah tables Citizenship Amendment Bill in Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 9 (HS): The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is tabled in the Parliament today. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah will present the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) today in the Lok Sabha amidst some protest from congress party and allies and some northeast region.
Anti-CAB posters have been pasted outside the residences of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, sources said. The protests have been reported in the entire northeastern region including Assam and Manipur.
Sources in BJP has said that a direction has been given to all BJP MPs to be present in the House for three days starting from December 9.
The Bill is to amend the six-decade-old Citizenship Act. It has already been introduced in Parliament this afternoon and later in the day it will be taken up for discussion and passage.
The Bill is expected to get a nod smoothly in the Lok Sabha as the ruling party BJP has 303 MPs in the 545-member House.
