Ranchi, 23 July (H.S): Like 2G, 3G or 4G, mobile networks or towers of 5G do not have any adverse effect on the health of human beings or other living beings.

Minister of State for Communications Debu Singh Chouhan gave this information while giving a written answer to the question of Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand Mahesh Poddar in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Chouhan said the fact has also been accepted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and committees of experts constituted from time to time in India. Despite this, he said, rumours of harmful radiation are spread from mobile networks or towers, while making people aware of these rumours, the Government of India is constantly trying to give information about the correct facts.

Minister Chouhan informed that mobile towers of any technology i.e., 2G, 3G, 4G or 5G emit non-ionizing radio frequency. Electromagnetic field radiation from mobile towers in any technology used is below the safe limits set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (I CNIRP). There is no satisfactory scientific evidence available for its adverse effects on health.

In February 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) clarified that “to date and after extensive research, no adverse health effects have been found from exposure to wireless technology.”

The Department of Telecommunications, Government of India has prescribed exposure limits for radio frequency field i.e., base station emissions that are ten times more stringent than the safe limits prescribed by ICNIRP and recommended by WHO.

The committee constituted by the Hon’ble Allahabad High Court, comprising experts from IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, IIT Mumbai, ICMR and AIIMS, also in its report stated that no evidence of radiation hazards from mobile BTS towers is available.

However, the government admitted that misinformation is being spread on the basis of misleading facts about 5G technology in various public forums. The government is trying to allay the apprehensions of the public and make available factual information by using various information media.
